Nokia Store Not to Allow New Symbian and Meego App from 1st Jan 2014

Time has finally come for Symbian. Nokia has recently sent a mail to all app developers about new development on Symbian and Meego. In the mail, its written that after 1st Jan, 2014, Nokia Store will not allow any new Symbian and/or Meego application or updates to existing application.

Users will still be able to download the applications but no new application will see the Nokia Store after 1st Jan, 2014. You may see some development from publishers and they may provide direct links of apps from their websites. Nokia has finally put a brake on Symbian. This is very disappointing news for millions of Symbian users. Heres the email-

As a result of this review, we have decided to focus our support and investment in new content toward Asha and Windows Phone. If you have Symbian and MeeGo content in the Nokia Store, it will continue to be available for download to customers, and you will continue to receive download and revenue reports as well as payouts for downloaded content. However, starting January 1, 2014, you will no longer be able to publish any new content or update existing content for Symbian and MeeGo.

We are very excited about the opportunities available with Asha and Windows Phone, and hope that you will bring your talents to these platforms. We believe that these changes will help improve our ability to support you as you develop fantastic apps for your customers.

It is clear from mail that Nokia is now focusing on Asha and Windows Phone platform. Symbian and Meego is of least to no importance.

Update Error Solution For S60v5 S60v3

In my one of  previous posts i gave you solutions About Certificate error. But Rather than Certificate Error in Nokia mobiles there is also an UPDATE Error which comes frequently while installing outdated apps in your Phone. 

I tried many solutions from various sites but was unable to solve this error. But now i have a solution for this error too.

You can try these fixes to solve this Error:

• Update error comes when your app is expired. So Try to change the date of Your mobile phone 1 0r 2 years back. If the error still comes follow 2nd step.
• See if the app you are installing have a previous version installed on your mobile or Not. You can see this by following this Menu > Settings > Application Manager > Install Apps. If the previous version is installed try uninstalling it and then install the Newer version. 
• If your problem is still not solved then you have to follow this step. Use Y File Browser and Follow the root C: > Sys > Bin. Find the folder for respective app And delete the folder using Y-Browser. And after that try installing your app.

The design of the Samsung Memoir certainly walks a very thin line between camera and phone. The ergonomics are uncanny the shutter button and zoom controls are on the top, the camera lens and flash are positioned in a way so that your fingers are unlikely to block them, and the touch screen interface acts as a giant view finder all like a regular camera. If it were not for the telltale call keys and the T-Mobile branding, we wouldve thought the Samsung Memoir was a camera and not a phone. Is it a camera or a phone? The Samsung Memoir mimics a camera very well. Be it camera or phone (or both), the Memoir is one svelte, elegant device.

Measuring 4.2 inches long by 2.1 inches wide by 0.6 inch thick, the Memoir is clad in black with silver on the sides, and its one of the slimmest high end camera phones weve seen.

Dominating its entire front surface is a 262.000 colors 2.6 inch touch screen display that looks simply stunning. The display is vibrant with vivid colors and sharp looking graphics.

You can adjust the backlight time and brightness, and you can personalize the display with wallpaper and a greeting message.

While you can adjust the font type, you cant change the font size. Like other Samsung touch screen handsets, the Memoir has haptic feedback, meaning the phone vibrates to let you know your touch has registered. You can adjust the intensity of the vibrations if you want. The touch interface is pretty responsive and intuitive, but it did take us a little while to get used to the sensitivity of the screen, even after calibration. We would occasionally launch a program when all we wanted to do was scroll through the menu. We imagine this is something you learn to adapt to with time, but newcomers to touch screen handsets might find it frustrating.

Also, the Memoir has an internal accelerometer that automatically changes the displays orientation from portrait to landscape mode when you hold the phone horizontally. This only happens with certain applications like the Web browser and the messaging interface, and it only rotates clockwise by 90 degrees.

On the default standby page, youll find four icons at the bottom row of the display. They represent the phone dialer, the phone book, the Web browser, and the main menu. The phone dialer has a virtual keypad with large alphanumeric keys, plus there are also shortcuts for the call log, voice mail, the messaging menu, and the phone book.

Sony Ericsson Z750a

Like many Sony Ericsson phones, the Z750a comes in multiple colors phantom gray and rose pink. The pink version, which we examined, isnt as garish as the pink model of the Z310a, but its still bright and shiny. It shows your reflection, albeit a rose tinted one, and like any mirror, it attracts fingerprints. We werent crazy about it, to be frank, but its certainly eye catching. As stated above, the Z750a is a tad bulky, but not excessively so.

It measures 3.8 inches by 1.9 inches by 0.8 inch and weighs 3.9 ounces. It fits in comfortably, but the outer plastic casing felt a bit flimsy. The Z750as external display is similar to the Z310as.

Though its invisible when the back lighting is off, a quick flick of the left spine volume rocker makes it appear in the center of the front face. Its a unique touch, particularly since the display has a vertical orientation, but we didnt love it.

Though the display shows the time, battery life, signal strength, and number caller ID, its rather small when compared with the phones overall size.

That means that the text is also small and that the screen wont show photo caller ID or work as a viewfinder for the camera lens. Also, the display is difficult to see in direct light.

Like most Sony Ericsson phones, the Z750a has an excellent internal display that measures 2.25 inches (240x320 pixels) and supports 262.144 colors. Colors were vibrant and images were crisp, though the display can be difficult to see in direct light. You can change the brightness and the clock size, but none of the other options are customizable.

Canon PowerShot SD 880 IS

At 6.3 ounces and measuring 3.7 inches wide by 2.2 inches high by 0.9 inch deep, itll fit more comfortably in a pants or coat pocket than a shirt pocket, but its by no means big. Compared with the SD870 IS, the SD880 IS has the latest version of Canons image processing engine, Digic 4, jumps from 8 megapixels to 10, and offers a few more scene modes.

The 4x f2.8-5.8 28-112mm lens is a highlight of the camera the wide angle is so nice to have on a camera this small, and its a tad longer zoom than on the SD870. It also records video using the H.264 codec instead of Motion JPEG. On top of the two tone body (its available in gold or brown and silver or black combinations) are the shutter button and surrounding zoom control, a small power button, and a switch for going between Video, Special Scene modes (SCN), and Shooting mode in Auto or Program AE.

That mosaic like design on the right is the speaker. Scene modes are plentiful 16 in all and include Stitch Assist for panoramas and Underwater for use with an optional casing.

Shooting mode lets you go fully automatic with some minor adjustments, or drop it into Program AE, which gives you control for exposure compensation, white balance, tone, and ISO.

Following the bodys curve on the right from top to bottom are Print or Share and Playback buttons, a directional pad surrounded by a thumb dial, and then Menu and Display buttons.

At first glance it looks like theres a lot going on with the controls, and there actually is, but operation remains reliably straightforward. The directional pad is pretty standard instead its the thumb dial that adds interest here. In SCN mode, the dial is used for rifling through your options. Its also used for swapping between Auto and Program in Shooting mode and tone control in Video.

It works well, but you can barely feel stops when spinning the dial making it just a little too easy to switch out of whichever mode you want. The dial can be used for navigating Menu settings, too. Overall, I like the key design and wheel, but I can also see it confusing new users to the point of frustration.

Sony Ericsson W980

With so many slider and candy bar Walkman phones, the sleek styling of the W980 is a welcome diversion. The shiny, black skin catches the light without attracting fingerprints or smudges and the clean lines give the handset an attractive edge. Another cool design touch is a quarter inch of clear plastic on the bottom of the front flap. Sure, its slightly gimmicky, but its also eye catching and we like how the embedded lights flash when you get a call and when music is playing.

At 3.6 inches tall by 1.8 inches wide by 0.7 inch deep and weighing 3.5 ounces, the phone travels well and fits comfortably in the hand. Whats more, the hinge mechanism also feels solid. We noticed, however, that the plastic battery cover feels a bit flimsy and is rather difficult to remove. The external display measures a generous 1.5 inches. It wont support photo caller ID, but it shows the date, time, battery life, signal strength, and numeric caller ID.

None of displays options are adjustable, including the back lighting time. Below the display are the dedicated music controls, which have a design of three overlapping circles. The controls are touch sensitive, so there is little tactile definition besides the center circle being slightly recessed. As expected, you can manipulate all aspects of the player and radio without ever opening the phone.

It makes for a comfortable user experience, yet we had one complaint. When you close the W980, it goes directly into music mode with the external controls activated. It then remains in music mode until you switch to standard mode or activate the locking switch. It was a little annoying, and if there is a way to change it we couldnt find it.

The aforementioned locking switch sits on the left spine below a rather stiff volume rocker and the control that changes the handset from music mode to standard. Twin speakers sit on either spine, and the connection port sits on the right spine. Note that Sony Ericsson uses a proprietary connection for the charger, a wired headset, and a USB cable. Also, the combined port means that you can use only one peripheral at a time.

The camera lens sits on the rear face, which unfortunately is the same place we wanted to rest our finger when we were holding the phone to take a picture. Its also disappointing that you dont get a flash or a self portrait mirror for a 3.2 megapixel camera. The internal display measures 2.25 inches and supports 262.144 colors (320x240 pixels). Like most Sony Ericsson displays, it is bright, vibrant, and colorful, with sharp graphics and photos.

You can adjust the brightness and choose from a selection of menu styles. All of the styles are intuitive but the menu text might be a little small for some people. We were apprehensive about the navigation array typically thats where Sony Ericsson makes design missteps but the W980 pulls through.

The circular keys feature a four way toggle with a central OK button, two soft keys, Talk and End controls, a clear key, and a control that activates a user programmable shortcut menu. Though the controls are flush, theyre tactile and easy to use, even if the calling buttons are a bit cramped.

Youll also find a dedicated power button and a Walkman control just below the array. The circular keypad buttons are also flat, but they have a spacious arrangement and a relatively comfortable feel beneath our finger. We could dial and text without any problems, but rapid texting felt a little awkward. The bright back lighting helps in dim situations, but dialing by feel is difficult.

A. Somewhere in your settings, my Android has a tab that is WIFI and Network Settings not sure where it is on a BB, but you should be able to set a preference of WIFI over data plan but I am 99% sure it will default to WIFI when it is available (unless your provider is sadistic).

Lexmark X500n

The Lexmark X502n is a behemoth of a printer. It measures 21 inches tall, 19 inches wide, and 17.2 inches deep, and weighs a hefty 77 pounds. Its possible to move it yourself (speaking from experience) but not recommended, for fear of dropping the printer and breaking both it and your toes. The multifunction unit that sits atop the printer comprises a flatbed scanner, an automatic document feeder, and the control panel.

The flatbed scanner is only big enough to scan A4 or letter size originals, but using the ADF, you can scan legal size documents, too. The ADF can hold up to 35 pages.

The X502n comes with a 250 sheet input tray that can be configured to hold up to legal size paper. An optional 530 page drawer is available, too. Unfortunately, theres no manual feed slot, so one off prints still have to go through the main drawer.

The output well, located below the control panel, can hold up to 250 sheets. The control panel is basic and well organized.

Three buttons let you switch between copy, scan, and fax tasks. For faxing, theres an alphanumeric keypad, 10 one touch dial buttons (and a shift key, for a total of 20 one touch numbers), and redial, hook, and directory buttons. The standard reduce or enlarge, lighter and darker, image quality, menu navigation keys, and start and cancel buttons are all present and accounted for.

Finally, the control panel includes a backlit, two line text LCD for perusing menus. The X500n uses four toner cartridges black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. Each cartridge is offered in regular and high capacity versions. The regular black costs $90 and yields about 2,500 prints, while the high capacity version costs $134.70 and yields about 5,000 pages.

Each regular color cartridge costs $98.45 and produces about 1,500 pages, while the high capacity versions cost $119.70 apiece and yield about 3,000 pages. Using the high capacity cartridges for best value, we estimate that a black print will cost about 2.7 cents per page, while a full color page will cost about 14.7 cents per page. Both costs are low.

The executive producers are John Branca and John McClain. The film will be distributed worldwide by Sony Pictures Releasing. Tickets for the limited two-week engagement of the film went on sale September 27, 2009. The release date is October 28, 2009.

B 2 Stealth Bomber Crashes Smoked 1 2 Billion Dollars

A B-2 Bomber, probably the coolest aircraft ever created after the Lockheed A-12, has crashed for the first time ever. Its name was the Spirit of Kansas and it was one of the 21 $1.2 billion Northrop Grumman stealth plane ever manufactured. It fell to the ground right after take-off for "unknown reasons" at the Andersen Air Force Base in Guam. Both pilots ejected to safety and video footage of the aftermath shows a big mess on the ground:

The B-2 Spirit follows the same ideas pioneered by John Knudsen Northrop, who founded Northrop to pursue his flying wing designs, and the Nazi Horten Ho-IX, one of the most advanced planes at its time, designed by the Horten brothers.

The Ho-IX, also called Gotha Go 229 or Ho 229, took of for the first time in 1944 and was the only plane to meet Luftwaffes chief, frustrated transvestite and absolute nutter Hermann Göring 1000-1000-1000 performance standards: the Horten was capable of transporting 1,000 kilograms of bombs (2,200 lb) over 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) at 1,000 kilometers an hour.

Fortunately, it never reached production and most airframes were destroyed by US forces to avoid the Soviets getting their paws all over them. The U.S. VIII Corps of General Pattons Third Army captured one, however, and its low-drag, no-unnecessary surfaces live now in the B-2.

Unlike the experimental Horten and the flying wing designs that Northrop designed in the 40s (like 1948s Northrop YB-49, a jet-based variation of the 1946s YB-35 strategic bomber) the Spirit became fully operational.

The B-2 bombers are amazingly efficient: like its 20 sister vessels still in service, the Air Vehicle-12 Spirit of Kansas was capable of delivering both conventional and nuclear bombs to any target around the world in a few hours, with just one refueling. Powered by four General Electric F118-GE-100 turbofans capable of 17,300 pounds of thrust each, the aircraft can reach 410 knots (470mph) at a maximum altitude of 50,000 feet.

Another advantage of its simple design —coupled with its radar-absorbing coating, called Alternate High-Frequency Material—is that their radar profile is extremely low. Coupled with its operational altitude, this make them extremely hard to detect and shot down. Thats the reason why this crash, which no known reasons yet, is so exceptional. That and the effect of watching $1.2 billion dollars disappearing in an crater in a concrete runway.

According to the Air Force, an investigation is currently under way about why the Spirit of Kansas went to Oz at Guam. But dont worry, taxpayers, Im sure you will get a cool 3D simulation of how it all happened from the Wizard in Chief, General Dorothy and Commander Toto, at the Pentagon.

Since we took receipt of ROCKI we have been playing around with what does and doesnt work. One bonus is that +Sony Xperia  Walkman app on Xperia phones also works well using "Throw" 

Open your Walkman app and select the throw icon in the top right and select your ROCKI, then have fun firing your music to your speakers. 

If you need the walkman app then you can find "versions" of the apk on various internet sources, so use those at your own risk, and of course the copyright / legal issues that follow.

Motorola Aura

Circular display aside, the phone itself looks pretty nice as well if you’re into phones that make phone calls and do little else. Moto says, “Sophisticated design, high performance racing engines and the quality of a photographic print served as the perfect muses to inspire the creation of AURA.”

The phone is made from over 200 parts and the display is sapphire crystal apparently “one of the most scratch resistant materials on earth.” So you could probably safely throw this in the same pocket as your keys.

No word on pricing yet, but the front part of the phone is made by hand and takes two weeks to create, so it’s pretty safe to assume that this thing won’t be $49.99 with a two years contract. Think more in the high hundreds to thousands of dollars.

HP Photosmart D7460

The HP Photosmart D7460 looks a lot like other members of the Photosmart printer line. The brushed silver and white body stands 18.2 inches wide, 15.3 inches deep, and 6.8 inches tall, and weighs a very manageable 17.6 pounds. Protected behind a clear plastic door live four memory card slots that accept most types of cards some card types require an adapter, which is not included.

The front mounted USB port is PictBridge enabled, which means you can print directly from PictBridge cameras. You can also use it to connect and print from storage devices such as USB thumb drives. Although this printer does resembled older Photosmart models, the major difference is the distinct lack of buttons on the user interface. The reason for this is that the 3.5 inch color LCD is a touch screen.

HP has moved most of the direct print capabilities and functions to the touch screen, leaving the control panel clean.

The only buttons are the cancel, red eye removal, and print photos buttons. The touch screen is mounted in a panel that swivels through a 90 degree range, letting you optimize the viewing angle.

The screen is large, colorful, and responsive. The Photosmart D7460s paper handling design is typical of HPs Photosmart printers.

The unit comprises the output tray and two input trays. The main input tray sits at the bottom and pulls out for easy loading. Adjustable paper guides allow you to load various paper sizes as many as 100 sheets of plain paper. Immediately above the main tray is the dedicate photo paper tray that holds 4x6 sheets and smaller. The nice thing about this paper tray is that it engages automatically, so you dont have to push it in manually in order to print from that tray.

Above both input trays is the output tray, with an extend able arm for corralling long prints. A clear window lets you see if the photo paper tray is empty, while the output tray flips up for loading photo paper. This printer uses six color printing, with individual ink cartridges for less waste. The 10mL black cartridge costs $18 to replace and prints roughly 480 pages. Each color tank holds 4mL and costs $10 to replace.

The number of prints each can produce varies by color, as some colors are more commonly used than others. For example, the light magenta and light cyan are rated to print more pages because theyre used less often than the regular magenta and cyan. Based on HPs estimates of the number of pages produced per cartridge, we estimate that a black only page costs about 2.6 cents and a full color (six colors) page costs about 10.3 cents both costs are good. Unfortunately, HP does not offer XL versions of these cartridges for this printer.

British Navy Developing Invisible Ships Using Metamaterials

Scientists at the Britannia Royal Navy College are working hard to make the idea of an invisible ship a reality using metamaterials that refract light in such a way that it "bends" around an object, making it appear as if it were invisible.

This would only account for viewing with the naked eye however—naturally radar cloaking would be an important part of the equation. However, it appears that this technology may be able to accomplish a lot more.

Chris Lavers, a senior lecturer in remote sensing and sensors technology at the college believes that nanomaterials could help render the next generation of ships invisible to the naked eye, radar, and even heat seeking missiles—all while being completely quiet and impossible to detect based on their impact on the Earths magnetic field. This isnt the first time we have heard about invisibility cloaking using similar methods, so heres hoping that something actually comes of it in the near future.

Yahoo honeymoon hits reality for Internet sweatheart Mayer

The axing this week of Yahoos second-in-command sent a signal that reality is setting in for Silicon Valley sweetheart Marissa Mayer, who leads the struggling Internet pioneer.

Hearts soared when Mayer was wooed away from rival Google in July of 2012 to become the seventh chief of Yahoo in five years.

The cultured, stylish and smart veteran engineer promised to bring some of the Internet giants money-making magic with her in the move from the Googleplex in Mountain View to the Yahoo campus in Sunnyvale.

While Mayer had become a high-ranking Google executive, the Yahoo post was her first time as chief executive.

Yahoos floundering share price climbed with hopes Mayer would succeed where others failed in re-inventing the once flourishing Internet search firm left to wither in Googles shadow.

One of her first big moves was to hand-pick a lieutenant to serve as chief operating officer, who makes sure the Yahoo team effectively hits goals set by Mayer.

But Mayer jettisoned her second-in-command this week, notifying US regulators in a filing. Chief operating officer Henrique de Castro walked away with a $20 million dollar stock award and other compensation after just 15 months on the job.

"To admit you are wrong is not easy for anyone to do, and something with the magnitude and cost of this mistake had to be a serious soul-searching event for Marissa," said Creative Strategies analyst Tim Bajarin.

"But her fiduciary responsibility is to only have people in the company who are moving the company forward, and if de Castro was not in step she did not have a choice."

Mayer and de Castro worked together at Google, and she hired him away from the rival with the aim of having him boost Yahoos sinking ad revenue.

Yahoo ad revenue continued to sag, and de Castros dismissal has financial analysts wondering whether the company will disappoint in a quarterly earnings report due out January 28.

"There is a saying that you cant recruit anyone out of Google for money; and if you do get someone out of Google, it is someone who they wanted to leave," said analyst Rob Enderle of Enderle Group in Silicon Valley.

"This could indicate there is truth in that saying."

Yahoo shares were down slightly on Friday, with after-market trades slipping to $39.86.

In a sign of further upheaval, reports at freshly launched Re/Code technology news website and elsewhere on Friday indicated Yahoos editor-in-chief had quit.

Mayer theatrically unveiled Yahoo digital magazines earlier this month at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas as the company dove deeper into being an Internet Age media company.

Her CES keynote production included appearances by newly-hired Yahoo Global Anchor Katie Couric and Yahoo Tech vice president David Pogue, a former New York Times reporter. But editor-in-chief Jai Singh did not appear.

Announcements included the launches of a Yahoo News digest app for smartphones, and digital magazines.

Mayer has been on a buying streak since she took over Yahoo, with the biggest acquisition the $1.1 billion takeover of blogging platform Tumblr.

Mayer has benefitted from a financial cushion afforded Yahoo thanks to an early investment in thriving Chinese e-commerce operation Alibaba.

"The Alibaba revenue is like living off a trust fund," analyst Enderle said. "Right now, from a financial perspective, she is riding on Alibaba. But she is not breaking anything."

Despite many investments, Yahoo last year lost its number two position in the US digital ad market to social networking titan Facebook, according to industry-tracker eMarketer.

Yahoos share of global digital ad revenue slid about a half percent to 2.87 percent last year, while Facebook and Google saw their shares rise, eMarketer reported.

Both Bajarin and Enderle said that, considering this is Mayers first time running a technology firm, early mistakes in judgment were par for the course.

"We dont see trouble in paradise," Bajarin said. "Im not sure you can read into this trouble as much as you can that Marissa is making sure everybody is in step."
